PDL Mustang (the first)

April 2, 2009

Regular readers will remember my small photo entry on PDL Mustang II.  This entry is to cater for the first PDL Mustang,  which although no longer in it’s livery (due to reasons that were mentioned that I’ve subsequently forgot) is still a formidable looking machine.  These photographs were taken back in 2006 at the Teretonga Classic Speed Fest.  As you can see, the massively wide guards and wheel & tyre combo to fit said guards give the car quite an amazing stance.  It’s still sitting period typical with nose down and bum up, but looks sweet for it.

I couldn’t help myself, and the price was right. So here it is, AW11 number four (and the first supercharged one I’ve owned). The goods: LSD ‘box, pulley upgrade, and ABV mod; suffice to say it tears up the roads with ease, and the way the blower spits out all that torque from down low is phenomenal compared to all those turbo vehicles I own. Why I ever wasted time piddling around in atmo 4A-GE AW11s I’ll never know…

also has some incredibly lightweight 14″ wheels of unknown description, which pleasantly surprised me when I picked one up.

Presently it has a hole in the exhaust flexi joint, so sounds like a tractor – I must attend to that before its next warrant of fitness. But in summary, most fun daily evar!

wedgey goodness

ok, so it’s up on stands in the photo…. but as you’ll note, that was taken in the pits at Taupo. damn supercharger belt had a bad case of the slip that day :(

But still… whee!

Farken’ L!

April 1, 2009

I was having a minor discussion via txt messages on the old cellular phone the other day, conversing in small sections with one ‘Ricardo el Snoozin’.  He made mention of some padre’s of his wetting their pants in glee over the Rocky Auto RB30 S30Z makin figures over 300hp, his immediate response to them that the old Nissan L-series Inline 6 could also make similar numbers was met with much scoffing and a few titters.  Ah, the joy of peoples ignorance.  What this conversation did for me, was remind me of a Japanese AUTOWORKS magazine I have in my abode, which details a little green S30Z rolling an L-series on triple carbs.  I passed on photographs of the article and thought I would share with my readers on retro-classics a little of it too.  I don’t want to get into the whole deal of it, obviously it was published in Japanese print and as such there’s likely copyrights I may well in infringing were I to go to far, as such I shall share but a few pictures and the power chart.  So here goes;

A fairly unassuming FairladyZ on RS-Watanabe Wheels

You could be forgiven for thinking it was just another tidy Z car.  afterall, that’s exactly how it appears at first glance, that is unless you’re that little bit more observant and you spy the cage and the staggered wheel and tyre selection…
