…none other than oldschool.co.nz!

it was indeed a very grand (albeit exhaustingly long) day. Chur to all who came along and supported/helped out with setup and on the day, yous knows who yous all are, and big ups to Richy, Chris, Leon, Duddley and all the others who made the stand such a success, winning Best New Club on the Block is hardly something to scoff at.

A special mention also goes to sheepers, whose 1UZ-powered Celica took out the Judges’ Choice Best V8 award.

Here is a short walkaround video of the club stand, which was modeled after a 1980s car yard. Some seriously sweet vehicles in our lineup, one can only hope next year’s effort will be just as awesome if not better!

And as a person who’s never paid much attention to underbonnet presentation on my cars (I’m more of a function over form type of guy) I have been somewhat converted to the idea of making the engine bay of squid tidy enough to be displayed if ever the need arises.

With many thanks to Mark and Lawrence, I now have some more bits and pieces for the 110.  The most important of which are the panels that I will be able to use to help remedy the rot that exists in mine.

Who puts a sunroof in a Skyline? I mean, really.

Other than that though and scoping out some bits and pieces, not a lot has changed other than the purchase of a boss-kit (thanks Ewan! www.hayatonka.com) to fit this little sucker on.

One day I might actually get to use it to steer with!

Stay tuned over the course of the year, don’t expect anything post-haste but there will be progress, I’ve plans for some essential purchasing next month and from there, who knows?!  I really would like to have it ready before my birthday this year as a little present to myself but we’ll wait and see as I’ve just recently been informed of another S21…

There’s always something.

Ah, the things you find when searching for RX-7 memorabilia on the internerds!

Back in good ol’ 1985, owning a Mazda RX-7 meant Serious Business. So serious, in fact, that the official RX-7 Club of America produced its own line of contemporary clothing, including a very swish John Player Executive jacket for the guys, and a whole range of fashion accessories and publications.

Best worn with Ludicrous Shades, Your Best Pornstache, and Judas Rockin’ Priest blasting out the stereo!

RX-7 Fashion '85! Pastel and big hair galore.

...and rocking jackets with nothing underneath.

with thanks to Foxed.ca – home of the largest collection of out-of-print Mazda manuals.

Authors’ cars: Banana love

January 7, 2012

Kicking off 2012 with an update on everyone’s favourite savanna banana!

Progress on the two-seater conversion has been excruciatingly slow. So slow in fact that I’ve been considering just giving up completely and rolling around with four seats and a “dodgy” WOF.

But lo and behold – towards the end of last year I found a listing on ebay for the elusive rear storage compartments, and immediately hit “buy now” as I was fairly sure I wouldn’t get another chance for an eternity. After some to-ing and fro-ing between myself and the seller, and a couple of long distance phone calls, I convinced him to sell me the rest of the rear interior parts, and he seemed to understand exactly which items I was after, so fingers crossed he a) actually goes thru with the deal and b) sends all the parts!

of course the next hurdle is getting all the items to NZ without spending a metric crapton on shipping!

Like rocking horse shit, with the lids intact, and even the keys!

Got back from holiday this week and none of my friends seemed interested in hanging out, so I went down to the lockup and started readying the RX-7 for the eventual 2-seater conversion.
