Goo-net, stop tempting me thus.

February 22, 2010

With all of my current disposable income tied up in getting the banana complied and road-legal, stumbling across inspirational DR30s on Goo-net does not help at all. Some might argue that I shouldn’t be browsing said sites if I don’t wanna be tempted into working (read: spending money) on the numerous other pieces of junk that grace my storage shed, but what else are you gonna do when you’re bored at work?

Low-down config’d, red squinteye KDR30 on bronze Watanabe RS-8s = mega friggin’ win.

Low-down config, it has.

Though I can’t tell if those are 55- or 60-section tyres. I’m leaning towards fitting 55s when I eventually stick my Watties on, purely because they aren’t as balloon-spec and speedometer accuracy be damned.

All well and good that the ’80s Jap trend is starting to take off… but are dealers taking the piss?

it's red, like a fire engine.

$13,000 for an automatic HR31 GTS-X with 150,000 clicks. Also the vehicle “has not been tampered with” and yet it’s sporting a flash new “Philips Bluetooth” audio system… go figure. I should go down there in the KDR30 and ask to take it for a test drive – who knows, they might offer me $2000 minimum trade on the HR31!

this yard could learn a thing or two from this listing (been on trademe for close to 2 years with no takers) or this one (been on trademe for 18 months and is now being offered for $1 reserve) – namely, you can’t just bring anything in and list it for an exorbitant amount; most enthusiasts and/or anyone specifically looking to buy should have already done their research and have slightly more sense than that (ain’t Goo-net a wonderful thing?)

I was informed the other day by a padre in the CH of CH that there’s a car yard not far at all from his work that is specialising in the currently uncommon but entirely up and coming popular culture trend shift towards classic and retro J-tin.  My padre (Josh (not the one with the Cortina)) was kind enough to provide me with some pictures to share with you all and as such, here they are!

Advertising, why not!?

…and an example of what’s on offer;

Z31 200ZR, AW11, MZ20

Awesome cars in their own right, but still quite modern, so how about we take a step back and enjoy the view of the finer offerings from Toyota & Nissan in the form of a Century & President… (more…)

Would you…

This Trademe listing gave me a bit of a chuckle over my morning coffee. Notably, the part where it says

WILL SWAP FOR EVO OR DR30 SKYLINE, NOTHING ELSE

I think owners of “oldschool” cars should stop taking the piss.

anyway it’s back to Wellington this weekend, to drop a JZX100 Tourer V off to a friend of mine (they call me the transporter, ha). In a way I’m glad, as any more time spent with this car and I might learn to love it and all its modern conveniences. Not to mention 1JZ-GTE powah… although in stock form it feels no quicker than squid. But to be fair the Chaser’s around 300kg heavier, and squid has a couple of mods. Either way, a 4-door cruiser is a nice thing to have.

Folks on another forum are trying to convince me to write a review about the JZX100, so I may link to it from here once I’m done… stay tuned!

going to wellington, brb

Fix It Again Tom

November 15, 2009

International jetsetter Tomstament has returned to our shores after a bunch of months holed up at some coal mine power station somewhere in the north of England (though before that, he was gallivanting round Croatia, Italy and the likes – lucky bugger). Anyway, I see his time spent in southern Europe has not diminished his unholy love for the Fiat, since it was during a layover in Singapore on his way back to NZ that he sent me a message on MSN asking if I’d like to go see some “rusty Fiat wagon” (his words, not mine!) on the Saturday after his return.

never actually having seen a Fiat wagon of any sort prior to 1980 before, I did oblige… and yeah, ’twas rustastic. But awesome.
