Car Spotting

As is usual for the larger “modern” racing events, the cars that come to watch are of more interest to me that those Australian Taxi’s lapping the circuit.   However this year was a little shy on numbers, I’m hoping that will be remedied by an excessive turnout for the Classic Speed Festival later this month.  Here’s a few that I decided to stop and snap;

FOR SALE

Parked up on the corner of the turn-off to Teretonga Park was this sweet Falcon Wagon.  If I had the cash, I probably would have bought it as long as it wasn’t over-priced.

Another favourite car of mine from around town happened to be attending also, I took advantage of this by snapping a few quick shots;

80′s MMC Koop

February 4, 2010

I had a visit the other day from fellow oldschool.co.nz member fuel, known for his knowledge and wisdom of the Mitsubishi brand his trip had been the result of a recent purchase of another Mitsubishi for his collection.  Seeing as the purchase took him so far down the country he figured the extra 2 hours drive to pop in wouldn’t be all that much in the grand scheme of things, that being said, he received food and shelter and then departed the next day for Dunedin, though before he left we did a little tiny tour of the typical Invercargill things to take photos with the Mitsi beside, like so…

…and of course how could there not be one with the occupants of my own driveway;

1958 Volkswagen Beetle

February 2, 2010

Whilst I was talking to Tim the other day (owner of the Rat Type3) he told me of a recent purchase, that being the title mentioned ’58 Beetle, a week or so later he came into my work again and informed me that he’d brought the car to work and I should go check it out when I finished, so I did exactly that.  This is the sight that greeted me, a pleasant one indeed;

So clean

One of the best things about Tim’s cars and indeed classics in general is that they’re such a contrast against the modern fodder that shares the parking areas and streets.  They demand and deserve attention.  Despite the dramatic differences between the Rat Type3 and the Mint Beetle, they achieve the same task.  The Beetle is just so damn clean it’s ridiculous, as you can see…

All well and good that the ’80s Jap trend is starting to take off… but are dealers taking the piss?

it's red, like a fire engine.

$13,000 for an automatic HR31 GTS-X with 150,000 clicks. Also the vehicle “has not been tampered with” and yet it’s sporting a flash new “Philips Bluetooth” audio system… go figure. I should go down there in the KDR30 and ask to take it for a test drive – who knows, they might offer me $2000 minimum trade on the HR31!

this yard could learn a thing or two from this listing (been on trademe for close to 2 years with no takers) or this one (been on trademe for 18 months and is now being offered for $1 reserve) – namely, you can’t just bring anything in and list it for an exorbitant amount; most enthusiasts and/or anyone specifically looking to buy should have already done their research and have slightly more sense than that (ain’t Goo-net a wonderful thing?)
