Teretonga: 50th Anniversary

To those unaware, Teretonga is Invercargill’s race track.

Their website can be found here;

Every year around the middle and tail end of February, the “Southern Festival of Speed” (a series that has events in Christchurch (Ruapuna), Timaru (Levels), Dunedin (Street Race) and as mentioned, Invercargill (Teretonga)) rolls into town.  Cars come from all over the  globe, the most recent one saw Can-Am cars (amongst others) take to the course, which was a very welcome spectacle to those who were used to much quieter modern machinery and your more typical Formula Ford affairs.

Cleaning & Detailing.

December 16, 2008

Having once worked as a Car Groomer, I have a great appreciation for those that take a massive amount of time and effort to properly and sometimes anally clean their or other peoples vehicles.  There’s likely a few different websites and forums about that are dedicated to this type of thing but one of the more well known ones is detailingworld.co.uk

Though a lot of people seem to scoff at those that go right to the extreme of measuring the depth of the paint and such things, it’s these fastidious details that pass on and allow the lives of cars to continue in other’s hands rather than being sent to the scrapper.

Here’s a few before and after’s,  lots of the threads on detailingworld.co.uk are worth a good gander.  Of course, once you’re there, feel free to have a nosey about, there’s some epic skill on show and some fine machinery also.

Every now and then you’ll stumble across a car or two that really makes you think, “Yeah.. that’s why I have cars as a hobby” or alternatively just something that makes you laugh and feel good about random automotive nonsense and the association with some of the people who share the hobby.

From time to time on retro-classics, I’ll be posting a few threads like this.  Basically, for those unfamiliar with most car forums, it’s an entry that displays via photograph, a few cars or car related things that caught my attention, to the point where I either got my cellphone out to capture the moment, or if I had my camera on me, I used that.

Over the short course that I’ve owned the Prince, I’ve accumulated a few minor pieces of literature in regards to it, the best of which is a genuine, of the era, Prince Motor Company, Parts Book.

Though obviously not as detailed as a service manual, and not able to tell me a great deal about anything along the lines of production figures, etc.  It has still provided some insight into what was available in the range… (more…)
