Cars for Sale

I was browsing through the oldjapanesecar.com forums, who (like many car forums) have an ebay/auction site thread which is a good place to find things that you might have missed in your own trawling or alternatively wouldn’t have seen anyway because it’s from a country of origin different to your own.  I choked on several measures of hilarity when I stumbled upon this brilliant share by Australian OJC user, davehoos.

Toyota Corolla HE70

Toyota Corolla HE70

Oh yeah baby, this could be more of an Australian Japanese car if it tried.  Those of keen eye and knowledge will see the “kit” traces back to the mighty Holden Torana SL/R 5000.  That’s not all that’s Aussie about it though, “What does the ‘H’ in HE70 stand for?” I hear you ask.  Well… (more…)

After logging on this morning, I checked my blogroll, as you do, and stumbled upon what at first glance seemed an interesting (but not tremendously so) post on the JNC (Japanese Nostalgic Car) blog.  It showed a RHD Bluebird 411 in the US that had apparently been imported to the US from little NZ of all places and not only that, but…

Southland Motor Group, Invercargill.

Southland Motor Group, Invercargill.

Nice.  You can read more about it on the JNC blog here; Kidney Anyone?

Or if you’re that way inclined you could buy it from eBay here; Datsun 411 For Sale

Always amusing to see tales or things that have come from little old Invercargill and have made their presence known elsewhere.   Obviously Goodbye Pork-Pie and Burt Munro are probably the most commonly known of such things though I’m sure there’s more.  This little Bluebird obviously isn’t of that ilk though is still interesting.

Using my own blog to sell random things I’ve acquired and need to get rid of to pave the way for the C110 getting back onto the road, better than ever;

Want to buy a Bug?

This little ‘Rat’ Bug, is for sale not too far from me.  It’s in Winton, Southland.  I normally wouldn’t put your average for sale type deal up on here but I think it’s likely to have a potential market in viewers from here and as the guy who owns it is essentially local.  Why the hell not?!  Check it out for yourself;

“Spec” List;

-’enhanced patina’ half fake, half real (looks real)
-pinstriped under patina to look old
-5″ narrowed beam
-dropped spindles
-new king pins
-new link pins
-1600 single port (new cylinders and pistons
- big webber twin barrel carb (needs manifold)

A few days ago I lamented to a friend that it was pretty much impossible to find certain nostalgic cars for sale in Japan anymore – specifically, Mazda Familias of the pre-facelift BFMR 4WD kind. “Maybe because they all ended up here,” he quipped.

imagine my surprise when this evening I received a link to the following vehicle listing on Goo-net:

OHAIS, WE HAS FAMILIA FOR YOU!

It’s like the gods heard my complaint, or prayer, or something, I dunno.

380,000 yen is “only” NZ$5800, which totals one pretty expensive BFMR when you think about it – but like I mentioned in my Starion post from last week, it would be the ideal car to own from a collector’s point of view compared to the rubbish you often see on Trademe. And given the legendary status and nostalgia surrounding these cars in NZ, there’s a fair chance someone out there is willing to pay that much for an unmolested example.

No, not me, if anyone was wondering.
