Not Good Enough?

March 5, 2010

Recently SpeedHunters.com put out a request for people to e-mail in pictures of their Skylines for a “Skyline Week” they were doing, March 1 thru 6.  (March being the 3rd Month, eg. 3-1 (R31), 3-2 (R32), etc.)  There was a comment made in the post that if you were fortunate enough to own a classic Skyline, you were welcome to send through a picture of that too and that would be posted on the day of the R31.  I figured, hell, I wonder if they’d bother posting mine up.  So I threw together an email and fired it off.  The days went by, no reply, but I figured that normal given the amount of mail they likely receive.  I informed Ed (Orion) of the request for Reader’s Cars too and he also decided to fire an email off.  So we waited.  Then, the first came and went, being America is a day behind us, it wasn’t until the next that the March 1st offerings were posted.  Good news!  Ed’s two DR30′s made it in.  My S21 and C110 however, did not.   I can’t help but wonder whether it was because when  I sent my email I linked to my site in it and a post on the front-page at that time was this one,  http://blog.retro-classics.co.nz/?p=2966

Perhaps they took offence or perhaps my e-mail just got lost in the sea of e-mails.  However seeing as they didn’t post them up, I might as well even though you chaps are likely to have seen it all before.

Well, almost. Still gotta sort out some proper front seats to match the rest of the interior trim, find some O.Z Racing centre caps for the rims, and buy some Cusco adjustable camber top mounts via Ewan @ hayatonka…

But other than that I’m actually signing off on one of my projects for the first time! (the “I’m finished!” post from last year now seems a little bit premature in hindsight, but ah well.) let’s hope that neither banana nor squid take as long to complete!

here’s an up-to-date photo of the car as it sits now. More after the jump.

I’m fairly confident this is the only TX3 of its condition left in this country… possibly the world? What a maddening thought.

My poor, poor credit card.

how to lighten one's wallet in four easy steps (by decypher the code)

I don't even want to add up the invoices, it's almost too depressing.

step 1: Bosch Motorsport fuel pump (aka ’044′)
step 2: Tial 44mm external wastegate and 0.8 bar spring
step 3: 4x Denso 850cc injectors (still on order, not in this photo)
step 4: Garrett GT3071R twinscroll ball-bearing turbo

If I don’t be making 400PS in terror squid after all this crap gets fitted ‘n tuned, tantrums shall be thrown. Excessively.

110-Project, Rear-Panel.

February 11, 2010

I went and visited my panel beater chap today.  I had left my spare rear panel there and decided to go pick it up and have a yarn.  Thankfully he still had it sitting aside, despite one of his workers trying to throw it out at one point.  So after a bit of a natter about the state of the 110 and other vehicles I grabbed the panel and made haste, allowing him to return to work as well.  A quick stop over at E Hayes & Sons to buy some screws to fit the Japanese domestic lamps to it and I made my way home and dug the lamps out of storage, made use of my new screws and played a game of comparison.

Nissan (above) - Datsun (below)

The Datsun one is obviously not entirely stock having had the badge recess filled and then the whole panel re-painted.  However, that’s not important, what is important is that the spare panel needed some tidying up, so before I shot off to work I started on that…

Sunday drive

February 7, 2010

Been having more intermittent fueling issues with the KDR30 lately (ever since Japmeat). This time it literally sounds like the factory Nissan pump is on its way out, with its incessant groaning and buzzing. Which is fine by me since I was planning to replace it with a Bosch 910 anyway… but still, annoying.

today the pump was behaving for once, so after a quick vehicle detail I went for a nice leisurely Sunday drive with camera in hand. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of shooting with manual-focus Olympus prime lenses from the late ’70s-early ’80s, and the results have been nothing short of impressive considering all of these optics are over 25 years old. much like the coupe!
