Retro Car Game

March 4, 2009

It’s a bit old now, but it’s still a sweet little game.  I got home the other night and was bored as all hell.  Rather than do anything constructive I thought I would see what I had on my HDD to play.  I ended up cranking up GT Legends.

If you’ve no idea what GT Legends is, then gather around children whilst I tell you a tale of magic and wonder.  Or rather of simulation and classics.  GT Legends is made by SimBin, a German software developer.  The level of physics and detail is, for it’s time, quite astounding.  The only thing I find lacking in it, is the lack of Japanese classics.  Having said that, it’s still fun as all hell to fang about in Mini Cooper’s, Lotus Elan’s, RS3100 Capri’s, Alfa Romeo GTA’s and many others.

Isuzu Bellett Project

March 3, 2009

With Isuzu only having such a small stake in passenger vehicles, they’re an often forgotten area of car ownership and people don’t realise just how long they’d been in the game.  They could never compete with the likes of Toyota in Japan, after-all, who could?  They’re really on their own as far as production figures go.  The Isuzu passenger cars that are available are often looked upon with affection, a small and rounded affair, the 117 receiving the pen work of an Italian, as many Japanese cars did of the era.  The Bellett however, was not party to this, though that’s not to say it didn’t go without any means to impress.  As most will know the Bellett received a GT-R version the PR91W 1600-GT-R, it was a DOHC affair that did Isuzu proud on track and road alike.  However the focus of this article is the more humble street sedan.

BATRacer

March 2, 2009

Do you get bored at work?  At home?  Do you like to pretend to race cars with-out actually racing them?

BATracer is an online racing strategy/manager game, you compete against other people from all over the world in numerous different categories of car racing.  There’s constantly new categories under development and some are far more difficult than others.  It can take some time to get into it but it helps pass the time and is entertaining to boot.

You can check it out by following this link or by clicking the picture above;

BATRacer

From that main page you can see the current 18 different race types to choose from and with more coming there’s a selection for everyone.  In the retro stakes there 1986 Formula 1 and in the MR2 racing you can choose the AW11.  I’ve personally been playing it on and off for a while now.  I would recommend it to anyone who gets bored at work and has access to the site.

PDL Mustang II

Yeah baby, circuit racer

PDL Mustang II

The second of the photo feature cars from this years Teretonga Classic Speed Fest.  This car might look ugly as all hell, but it’s a fantastically cool car at the same time.  Unfortunately I did not get a chance to see it on track due to my late arrival.  It’s nothing by comparison to the original PDL Mustang as far as aesthetics go but it makes up for it in a more sorted, purposeful race car appearance.

The Yardley McLaren

February 25, 2009

This car has been at the last few Classic Speed Fests.  this time as I was wandering about, it was inside the scrutineering shed and being that it was raining outside, I thought it would be an ideal moment to shelter from the rain and take a few shots of a fantastic and impressive vehicle.

If you’re unaware of Bruce McLaren and/or Denny Hulme.  I would suggest you get visit this website; http://www.mclarenmotorsport.co.nz/

Once you’ve done that, come back and oggle the beauty that is this car.  I probably should have taken more photos but I think I was getting in the way of people as it was so I didn’t want to spend too long fluffing about.

Each of the photos links directly to a 1024×768 version.  Alternatively you can view the flickr gallery of 9 photos via the link at the end of this post.
