Hey Alistair, I think these guys stole your thunder!

1986 Toyota Century VG40, start price $12,000

I’m finding more and more ’80s Japanese sportscars and other rarities on tardme every week. The fact that most of them are listed at ridiculous prices has its advantages and disadvantages (as I’ve complained about bitterly in the past); though I suppose if prices stay artificially inflated there’s a chance I might get a tiny bit more than the “asking price” I had envisioned for the KDR30 if I ever decide to pass it on. We shall see.

But it’s amusing to see the sort of price disparities that exist between the auctions in Japan and the yards over here (even after taking shipping and compliance into effect) – which might be the subject of another blog entry one day if I ever get my USS login back.

Anyway, back to liberty8… this must be the yard mentioned in an earlier blog post, because in addition to the aforementioned Century… look – there’s that Soarer, that AW11 MR2, and that Fairlady 200ZR!

I’d always wanted a 200ZR and was pretty envious when I first heard of this one being for sale… but having seen the listing it now doesn’t tick any of the boxes, being 2+2, t-top, and automatic *shudder*

1988 Nissan Fairlady 200ZR PZ31, start price $10,000, window price... $15,800? Sweet jesus.

sigh, I could import and comply a manual supercharged AW11 tin-top for not much more than the asking price on this early “zenki” model.

1985 Toyota MR2 AW11, start price $5000, window price $6800.

GZ20 Soarers don’t really do it for me, if it was a MZ10 then I would take more notice. But this is still pretty cool.

1987 Toyota Soarer GZ20, start price $9,000 - unfortunately the window price still says $15,800

Check out the yard’s other listings, they also have a Camaro, a non-turbo U11 Bluebird (what the hell?) and a Cedric which unfortunately has no photos attached.

LOFL. Wonder how much they actually paid for the Century. Going by prices when you/I was looking, they’re making a freakin killing on that thing.
