Another Trial Fitment. It Looks Staunch.

I got a little bit more paint stripping done, this time on the front apron, which as to be expected was riddled with bog also.  However, I neglected to take any photos of it.  Instead after I finished with that I decided it was time to mark out where the flares sit and then how much steel (roughly) is to be cut out.  As you can see, there’s going to be plenty of arch to fill both width and diameter wise.  16′s I think would be ideal in the long run but I’ll only go as small as 15.  I’m thinking though that 8.5″ and 9.5″ might not quite cover it.  I’ll have to play around a bit with my 7.5′s to get an idea of what might be workable.

Anyway!  here’s a basic jist of how much steel has to be cut out…

The joy of cut-top arches to begin with, I guess!

14" Dwarfed by the proposed Arch Size

…and the front, which I likely won’t cut this much at all, but still shows the amount of difference between flared and standard.

Hooj Gap Imminent!

I’ll think I’ll start small and then cut more if need be.  Still…  It’s choice.  Bolt-on flares are win.

For those unaware.. these will be the temporary wheels until I can find/afford the correctly sized RS-Watanabe’s;

i <3 ssr xr-4 long champs soooo much, just thought i would throw that out there for the world to read………..oh nice progress by the way

  • banpei says:

That is a huge amount of metal you need to cut! :(
But IMO it will definitely be worth to do that!
XR4′s are a fine replacement! I think they will look great with the flared arches!

  • zep says:

boy, are these proper skyline flares? where from? keen to suss some universals for the geminizzle

  • kyteler says:

Leon, yeah man. Not genuine Nissan items but proper replica GT-R flares that cater for the body-lines of the car. Bought from Japan via YAJ courtesy of Ewan (www.hayatonka.com).

There’s usually a bundle of generic universal ones on TM for sweet fuck all. Shouldn’t be hard to get some!

  • Ed says:

Hey are those rear arches as solid as they look?

  • kyteler says:

Ed, yeah they are pretty solid. Did you want them?

  • Ed says:

No good to me unfortunately but I just wondered if they were good maybe you could sell them to someone who needs them. Then again, it’d probably be too difficult to chop them out on useable condition.
