Now I’ve seen everything. Brand new old stock Skyline RS cufflinks and matching tie clip for the discerning enthusiast. Perfect for your next formal outing, and they even come in a fancy velvet-lined box to impress your girlfriend.

Mont Blanc, eat your heart out.

Or at least she will be, until you tell her you dropped 15,000 yen (NZ$230) on these puppies; for the price one would expect just a bit more lushness than that. hell, they’re not even 9k gold or anything, and those are probably fake diamond studs on the clip.

A few days ago I lamented to a friend that it was pretty much impossible to find certain nostalgic cars for sale in Japan anymore – specifically, Mazda Familias of the pre-facelift BFMR 4WD kind. “Maybe because they all ended up here,” he quipped.

imagine my surprise when this evening I received a link to the following vehicle listing on Goo-net:

OHAIS, WE HAS FAMILIA FOR YOU!

It’s like the gods heard my complaint, or prayer, or something, I dunno.

380,000 yen is “only” NZ$5800, which totals one pretty expensive BFMR when you think about it – but like I mentioned in my Starion post from last week, it would be the ideal car to own from a collector’s point of view compared to the rubbish you often see on Trademe. And given the legendary status and nostalgia surrounding these cars in NZ, there’s a fair chance someone out there is willing to pay that much for an unmolested example.

No, not me, if anyone was wondering.

Mighty mighty steed

A pity Starions never really held their value here in NZ – which makes importing one not really that viable unless it was for a collection of some sort, but it’d be nice to own something this tidy/original.

This here’s a 1983 GSR-III model (with intercooler, so the 8-valve G63B gets a power bump to 175PS), tan cloth interior and smooth gunmetal paint. Starting bid is currently 200,000 yen (NZ$3100) which makes it something of a bargain, although it’s hard to tell whether start=reserve. No word on whether it comes with the factory optional blue smoke, but with only 59800km on the clock one would hope not!

now if only the interior was maroon, it’d be the perfect GSR-III…

You will look forward to see the records, I think the car has been well established treatment of it.

Linky to auction is here for the curious, and the seller has also provided an additional image gallery.

This post is intentionally devoid of words. Just look at the photos, dammit.

Rusting in peace…

resting amongst the trees (by decypher the code)

Let's go sunning, it's so good for you!

The abandoned remains of a 1950s International R190 sit peacefully under a tree. Amazingly, the owner claims the engine still starts and runs, but due to time constraints I wasn’t able to witness this spectacle for myself. Perhaps I’ll take him up on that offer next time I’m down that way – there are a few other rusting hulks dotted around his property which I’d like to trek back to and photograph at some stage.

So melancholic, yet… somewhat dignified.

Pretty flowers need the sun, this applies to everyone!
