Prince Amongst Parts

March 11, 2009

Having recently been told the correct manner in which to spell Prince (as in Prince Motor Company) in Japanese (a direct translation is evidently incorrect and yeilds very little results), I set about Yahoo! Auctions Japan, trying to find all manner of things.  As you can imagine, the pickings were indeed slim.  The majority of available or shown items were from that of the Second Generation (S50, 54, 57) or for the Gloria.  As I had been informed by a few Japanese contacts, finding parts and even seeing the first Generation Skylines is a rare thing.

To give you an idea of what I am up against, here’s a select few things that I did happen to stumble across, some priced well, others… not so much…

Prince G-series Gasket Set

Prince Gloria BLSI Gasket Set

Starting bid of ¥13500JPY is equal to $280NZD at current exchange rates.

Seems a fairly reasonable price to me, given the age and the availability of such things.  Obviously with the costs of shipping added on post purchase it would likely be a sight more expensive again.  Perhaps too much so.  Shipping out of Japan for anything that isn’t a letter, is a costly affair.  However, there’s far more expensive parts to be had, follow me inside…

Starting bid of ¥33000JPY equating to roughly $670NZD

I guess you could consider this to be exorbitant by comparison.  Rarity dictates such.  I’m fairly certain one the same failed to sell on trademe.co.nz for around the $40NZD mark.  A Slight price disparity between nations.

Not sure exactly what generation this is from or indeed exactly what it’s from.  For some reason I think 2nd Gen. Skyline, I could be incorrect however and will amend the caption if this proves to be the case.

Clocking in at ¥34000JPY ($690NZD) comes as a bit of a surprise given the lack of knowledge of it’s precise location or vehicle.

The larger portion of what’s available are booklets, brochures and general literature with some fairly eyebrow raising price tags on them.

¥1900JPY ($38NZD) Starting Bid, seems reasonable enough.  I just wonder what the reserve is on it!

So, as you can see.  If I had to get all my parts from Japan, my 1963 Prince Skyline S21D-4 might well end up to be far more expensive than I had expected!

    I have a Nissan Skyline 1500cc (PGC10) 1971. I’m looking for some parts.Can someone help me?

A 1500 would be a PC10 not a PGC10. What kind of parts were you after? Your best bet would be to try find them on Yahoo! Auctions Japan.

I want some parts of the body and some decoratives which are the same on GC10,PGC10 and KPGC10.
    Thank you…

Your best option would be to constantly check YAJ (http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/) every few days, search with the phrase ‘スカイライン C10‘ that’s C10 Skyline in Japanese. I had a quick browse now and there’s a fair amount to go through. Once you’ve found something you’re after send the URL to Ewan @ Hayatonka.com and he’ll arrange with you, the costs involved in getting it. I’d love to see some photographs of your car! If you have some to send let me know and I’ll fire you an email.
