With starting work in the evening and it being a magically fantastic day, I pulled the C110 out from the garage and got stuck in to the doomed side with my wire wheel and pistol drill.  Time consuming but rewarding none the less.   Here’s what I started with;

My first real port of call was the lower rear quarter, behind the wheel.  Being that the corner where the rear panel met the rear quarter was so horrifically repaired, things did not bode well.  Of course, how could they when the previous owner was so wonderful with his “repairs”.  The next discovery just provided further proof of inability/deception.

What I did here was take a few dabs in places with the wire brush to see whether there was any decent steel in behind the bog and if there was, where it started so I would know how much metal was toast.  Of course I didn’t expect to find this…

Screw that!

Screw that!

At roughly the centre of that in the lower section you’ll see a little spot.  That spot is a wood screw.  Nice, right?  Were that not enough in itself the top section of the crappy bit of steel that was held in at the bottom by said screw was held in at the top by solder! Welding is over-rated.

With that bit cleared I decided rather than slowly working my way over to it, I would start on the area that took the punt.  I was particularly curious about what had caused the paint to crack and rust to form just beneath the rear driver’s side window, not earlier than one month post “repair”.

The Culprit

The Culprit

Thankfully it turned out to be not much at all just poor workmanship prior to getting it all bogged and painted, I guess.  So the attack continued, my next point of focus was the body line that they’d made of filler that was in the wrong place.  So I did some digging to see just how much of it was bog and where the damn steel was hiding.

Stab, Stab, Stab

Stab, Stab, Stab

Only 10mm of filler along the body line.  It’s little wonder they “lost” it.   Thankfully though, the line is still there, as evidenced below;

Praise Jebus, it's alive!

Running out of hours before starting work, I essentially left things there.

Back to your home with you!

Back to your home with you!

Hopefully it’s a decent evening tomorrow and I can finish off that area and the door, which will just leave the guards, boot and bonnet to attack.

Dead keen!
