Put a CA in it.

September 15, 2009

It seems with the expense of other options being quite high, a cheaper and beforehand overlooked option (generally because the FJ, SR, Rotary or equivalent’s potential power) is the CA18DE(T) . If you’re looking for bang for buck though, the CA is a fantastic option and has been used more and more in recent times. Many times that I’ve come across conversions recently, it’s been the candidate chosen for small Fords, with the lack lustre Pinto 2.0 SOHC conversion being avoided in favour of the Nissan 1.8 DOHC option.

It’s about time really. To prove how good an idea it is, I provide you with these few but fine examples;

Ford Capri (on RR)

Ford Capri (on RR)

Ford Escort (on OS)

Ford Escort MkI (on OS)

another Ford Escort (on OS)

another Ford Escort MkI (on OS)

Ford Cortina (on turbosport)

Ford Cortina MkI (on turbosport)

Ford Anglia (on turbosport)

Ford Anglia (on turbosport)

The Anglia shown in the last picture takes things a step further being a Twin Charged CA.  Fantastic stuff.  Obviously there are many more projects other than these ones but I’ll let you look for those yourself.  If you know any, feel free to share them in the comments so that those interested can also have quick access to them.

P.S. Josh, I didn’t include yours because you don’t have a photo of your CA in the bay of your MkI Escort :P   Future feature though. ;)

KEY: RR (retro-rides) OS (oldschool.co.nz) turbosport (turbosport.co.uk)

Enjoy!

    I was just sharpening up my angry stick and going to call you a fat c*nt, but alas, the only pics i have are of it Balancing merrily on the Standard X-member with a FWD plenum and a Turbo balancing on blocks of wood.
    Chur Feature though, It saddens me that CA’s are so often overlooked. They are a mean engine, and are far nicer looking than the SR series..especially when putting them into an old automobile. And they rev like a som-bitch.
