Inspiration

Goo-net, stop tempting me thus.

February 22, 2010

With all of my current disposable income tied up in getting the banana complied and road-legal, stumbling across inspirational DR30s on Goo-net does not help at all. Some might argue that I shouldn’t be browsing said sites if I don’t wanna be tempted into working (read: spending money) on the numerous other pieces of junk that grace my storage shed, but what else are you gonna do when you’re bored at work?

Low-down config’d, red squinteye KDR30 on bronze Watanabe RS-8s = mega friggin’ win.

Low-down config, it has.

Though I can’t tell if those are 55- or 60-section tyres. I’m leaning towards fitting 55s when I eventually stick my Watties on, purely because they aren’t as balloon-spec and speedometer accuracy be damned.

Random snap: 4-door Tekamen

February 17, 2010

Michael’s away in Christchurch at the moment (no doubt sleeping off the awesomnity of last night’s Faith No More concert) so I’m currently holding the fort as far as updates are concerned.

And typically, I haven’t prepared anything in advance, so here is a photo of a random DR30 from my images folder.

A WILD TEKAMEN APPEARS!

More inspiration for me!

And yes, that is a real DR30 – I checked my work beforehand. *evil grin*

If I had infinite money and storage space, building something like this would be high on my list of things to do.

Oh yes.

Although I probably wouldn’t go the RB 6cyl route like most – instead I’d fit a VH41DE V8… voila, instant tow wagon with some grunts! Mash on a GTS-X front, possibly investigate converting to an IRS rear end, hit up R31HOUSE for some other bits and pieces… ah yes, one can dream.

red one!

silver!

Pure, Undiluted Inspiration

Whilst scanning RR for another entry entirely, I stumbled upon this project which (for reasons beyond my comprehension) I had somehow missed previously as it has been about since August!  I was in awe from the get go and I figured I simply had to make an entry about it or I would be failing you the reader.   So without further delay, I present to you a 1963 Taunus  Transit Transporter project…

Start with one mint ’63 Taunus Transit Van that already had it’s own amazing project thread;

Restored, Modified, Enhanced.

Enkei Dish is the Japanese equivalent of what is and has been a mainstay in NZ automotive culture for many, many years.  Irrespective of manufacturer, they’re well known colloquially as “Tridents” (despite their name actually being Tridens) they’re often seen on Kingswoods and Falcon’s of 70′s vintage.  Quite wide and usually with tyres whose second job is provided entertainment at children’s parties.

I was browsing YAJ and happened upon an auction for some brand new Enkei Dish wheels.  A few clicks later and I came across this page;

http://www.enkei.co.jp/eaa/wheel/dish.htm

Which has them available for various PCDs in both 15×8 ’0′ offset and 15×10 ’0′ offset.  Perfect for that period correct 70′s machine.

Horrible on the Jeep that they’ve shown but a lot smarter on the likes of this;

Awesome.
