Fender Finish

January 25, 2010

With both fenders at about the same stage before my drill packed a sad.   In the weekend I decided to roll to Mitre 10 and replace the drill under warranty.  We’re up to drill number 3 now.  Last one only last two weeks and did a tenth of the work of the first one.  Not cool.  Anyway…

This was what I started with on the Saturday;

Residual Paint & Bog, Post-Stripping

The RHS didn’t need all that much, just a quick flick with the wire-brush and then it was onto the LHS;

Which ended in this

The bottom of the guard fairly toast.  I think I might well take you up on that offer for that section from one of your spares, Ed.  If that’s alright.  You can see just how bad the rott is with these close-ups… (more…)

… the other Fender

January 22, 2010

Alright, so as mentioned in the comments from the RHS fender, I got stuck into the LHS Fender yesterday and some of it is better and some of it is worse.  So it’s probably drawing even with the RHS, I’ll let you see for yourself;

Take 1 Panel

Add Stripper & Glad-Wrap

Let sit for several minutes…

During one of his many excursions into the country delivering things, my friend Adrian stumbled upon a rather interesting find.  Amongst a sea of engineering metal, was a lime green glow.  Further inspection revealed it to be a Gen I, Honda Civic.  Connections were made with the owner and within moments, for the price of 24-Pack, the Civic had a new owner.  The only problem was it needed moved which was tricky in that several components had already been pilfered from it, the most important of which was the Steering Wheel and indeed the rest of the Wheels!  It was organised that the engineering firm would place the car on a pallet and then that pallet would be placed on a trailer and Robert’s your parents Sibling.

That’s where I come in.  Adrian had recently sold his car that had been equipped with a tow-bar which left the job to me and the wonderful H230.  I could think of nothing better than using a classic to tow a classic so in the morning before working my evening shift we ventured out to pick up the car where I was greeted with this sight;

Awesomeness Incarnate

Ready to be hauled off;

Your Chariot Awaits!

Back to that Fender…

January 20, 2010

You may remember this fender, being that I only just posted about it recently.  Well after all my running about today I figured I might as well be MORE productive and get stuck back into it to fill my “Something on the C110 Daily” quota.

Today I started with this;

Yeah, it's so awesome.

First port of call was the rott spot at the bottom of the guard.

3mm Finishing Filler, 1mm Regular filler, Metric Fuckload of "Fibre Bog"

Oh, but why use fibre bog/filler/Nu-Tech/New-Tec (whatever the fuck it’s called).  Well, obviously to fill holes with instead of using steel. Afterall, someone else has previously brazed in a repair patch into the bottom of the guard, why carry on?  Why not just slap some bullshit in it.  If you need proof that the rust hole was bad before the bog made it’s way in, then check out how the back of the bog looks after being dug out;

…and all I got was this lousy sticker.

NISSAN PRINCE TOKYO

well, okay, in addition to the dealership sticker the car is also nice and shiny for the first time in close to a year; I’d forgotten how insanely good Meguiars NXT car polish was. Don’t think I’ll use anything else again.

Bring on the classic Jap meet this Saturday!
