Rarities on Auction

March 5, 2009

Quite often on trademe and other websites, cars of rare and amazing wonder pop up and are worthy of taking a gander at, at the very least.  Sometimes they’re worthy of slapping a bid on.  It’s often suprising how little people want for cars that aren’t that common.  Here’s some gems that are currently on trademe.co.nz.  Of course, there’s a million (not quite) more, you’re welcome to search for those yourself though.

Lola T165/70

Clicking on the photos will take you to the auction page for the specific car, the Lola is perhaps my favourite on there at the moment, just because it’s so unexpected.  Mind you, so is the next car…

Ferrari F40

Toyota powered Psuedo-F40

Not the usual fare in NZ, that’s for sure (aside from it being a replica).  Just look at how bad-ass it is though.  If only I was filthy rich.  Sadly, I’m just the former.

An Electric Trike

An Electric Trike

…and now for something, completely different!  A brand spanking new electric trike.  I can’t imagine it sets the world on fire with it’s performance but it would be a laugh to try and tip over whilst driving as fast as it would go.

AMC 4x4 Wagon.

AMC 4x4 Wagon.

This is great just because it’s so hilarious.  White band tyres, jacked up.  Ugly as sin but desirable because of it.  I’d have it!

Lancia Gamma Coupe

Lancia Gamma Coupe

Here’s one that fits in the previous mentioned category of rare yet cheap.  Probably due to Lancia’s well known rustability.  Still, it’s a pretty special looking automobile.  I think a certain Tomstament should be seriously contemplating it’s purchase.

Fiat 125-base, Polonez Ute

Polonez Ute

This one is interesting, the auction describes it well enough that I don’t really have to but the basics of it all is that it’s a Polish built, Fiat 125 based Utility.  Better than your average home done hack job!

Hillman Husky

Hillman Husky

I can’t even remember the last time I saw one of these.  I do occasionally see the sedan variant kicking about but at $3000NZD, this Estate seems to be a bargain!

Borgward Isabella

Borgward Isabella

For one reason or another, there seems to have been a few Borgwards Isabella’s on TM recently.  Perhaps at the prices people are asking, more people are reminded of their own dwelling in a long forgotten shed and are reminded that they should perhaps try and pass it on to someone who may actually use it.  Whatever the case, it’s good to see them.

Prince Gloria

Prince Gloria

I’ll finish off this post with the S41 Gloria.  They’re a fantastic looking car in my opinion and this one looks like it’s going to go for a ludicrously cheap price, especially given that it’s legal and ready to rock.  With Beach Hop coming up someone should snap this up and upset the US crowd.

we picked up the blue isabella last year for $800, and have since shoehorn fitted a 3 litre ford v6 & 4 speed manual box, still plumbing up the water works, interior has been stripped and new seats, headlining & carpet complement this little toy. should be all up and legal in a few months.

That’s awesome, You’ll have to share some photos and stories from the buildup and I’ll throw them up here.

Hi, Vince do you have an update on the Borgward? I’ve recently brought one too, and am enjoying it so far (checkout my blog if you’re keen). Cheers Aaron
