Following on from the OS Giken FJ24 post from the other day I did a bit more snooping around on YAJ to see if there was any other FJ20-related stuff worth buying.

And man, was there ever!

These items cost money.

the 2nd most expensive item listed (#1 being the aforementioned FJ24 kit) happened to be a JUN custom intake manifold with twin-injector setup. A thing of beauty it is, but I get the feeling it’d be slightly too overkill for what I plan to do with squid – you’d have to be running some serious boost and/or engine mods to warrant needing eight injectors.

But the next thing which caught my eye as I worked my way down the page bore slightly more relevance to my current plan…

Stainless manifold, made to order pies.

Custom twin-scroll stainless high-mount manifold to suit Garrett turbo: the perfect partner for the GT3076R that’s currently collecting dust in my bedroom. Thing is, at ¥148,000 (buy now) do I purchase it and gain a whole heap of super-JDM-cred at the cost of burning a massive hole in my wallet, or find a local fabbing place that’ll whip one up similar for maybe half the price? Think, McFly, think.

Feeling smug about my incredible self-restraint, I clicked through to page two of the listings…

Alright, now we're talking!

…only to be taunted by this lavishly restored rocker cover and matching intake sitting right up top of the damn page. I’d always been disappointed by the lack of shine to the corresponding items on squid, and I gotta admit, the look of black crinkle finish a) is simply evil and b) would definitely make my FJ20 stand out from the squillions of red-rocker ones out there. I’ll add this one to my delicious, and come back to it again in a few days if it hasn’t sold (preferably after next payday rolls around)

Red rock rover

Here’s a brand new FJ20 rocker cover in red for comparison (the Nissan box is a nice touch). It may be ¥18,200 less, but I guess the intake would be worth around that much anyway.

This is for the FJ20 engine oil pan.

A refurbished sump. By the time you read this, it’ll already have been sold. Mine has a big dent in it, no doubt from the car bottoming out more than a few times in the past, and I suspect the oil pickup has been strained as a result – the engine sometimes makes a horrible whirring noise when cold. At ¥15,000 it’s marginally affordable, but I could easily get mine reco’d in similar fashion locally, so it’s just as well some other punter’s already put a bid in.

Metal*Gasket!

After rebuilding the B6T in my TX3 with a HKS-Cometic metal headgasket I’ve been swayed by their durability, so on similar terms this Trust one would be perfect for the FJ20. The good thing is it’s priced reasonably enough that I could afford it right now… even after conversion and shipping it works out to be cheaper than what I paid for the B6T’s HKS one, and should arrive in far less time (the HKS one took six weeks ex Macau or somewhere crummy). Another one bookmarked on Delicious for future reference.

and there you have it… a sure-fire method to empty your bank account over multiple pay cycles. I’m still astounded by the sheer amount of stuff available on YAJ for the good ol’ FJ, ahh if only Trademe was the same.

Also, a little bird tells me that my latest Hayatonka package arrives tomorrow, it’s a small one but a goodie. thanks again Ewan!
