So having left a lot of the rear quarter to go, on Friday afternoon after I had finished work for the day I shot home and due to the weather was resigned to wire brushing in the garage, which is annoying only for the fact that due to the previous “work” done on the C110, the garage fill with bog dust. Which isn’t the best, really. Anyway, so I hacked into the bog;

It wasn’t long before I decided that the amount of damage to this area regardless I would be better to as gently as possible, chip the bog off with a screw driver, then tidy up the residual filler with a wire-brush later, much like this…

It doesn’t look too bad there, but it wasn’t until I got further down that a previous repair that had perhaps not been finished properly made itself evident and then put further doubt in my mind of the ability, cost and time taken by the Insurance “repair”.

Yep... It just gets better.
You can easily see in the last shot the extent of the panel that had been welded into place, too early to have been done by the previous owner and not even blinked at/bogged right over by the insurance “repair”.

So the rest of the paint and filler on that panel got brushed off leaving it as such, but it’s not until the following shot that the photo gives you a good idea of just how pathetic the “repair” was.

What do you think? Does the dent being pulled to that and then 10mm of filler on it factor the $2000.00 repair cost? I don’t think so.

shit I reckon you should make them do the repair properly again, at least contact the insurance co who dealt with fixing it and say the paint started cracking months afterwards, so you stripped back the paint and found a sub-standard repair job been done.
it just sucks cause it means you’ve gotta fix up their shoddy work at your cost now.
also, are they rust holes along the top of the panel??
Yeah, all well and good except I’d rather have nothing to do with those people now. It took several months of battling just to get the rental car companies insurance to pay for a repair, I’m not even going to bother fucking about with it again. Needless to say though, the company that performed the repair has not been receiving any words of encouragement by any and all who ask and some who don’t. They are indeed rust holes along there the result of having a vinyl roof removed by the previous owner who them didn’t do sweet fuck-all about it except for filling the holes with fibre-filler. Lots of work to go.
yeah man thats horrible, I’d at least email the photos through to the insurance company and the “panelbeater”, with a stern email. Never know what could happen.
The insurance company chose the repairer based on the 3 quotes I did the legwork for. I assumed initially it was a good choice of repairer in that I had some dealings with this panel beater during my employment as a tow truck driver. Obviously though, they were a two faced pile of wank residue.
