Thankfully though with big, big ups to the wonderful Ewan of hayatonka.com, I placed an order for and subsequently received this replacement;

HUGE thanks to Ewan, again (and again and again) and massive respect to restored.jp for providing such a fantastic product. I’m quite sure my mind is made up to wait for the cash to get another few things before I send the car in to get sorted. No point fixing steel to then rust again at a later date when there’s FRP of this fit and quality about.

I mean, really.

Other than that though and scoping out some bits and pieces, not a lot has changed other than the purchase of a boss-kit (thanks Ewan! www.hayatonka.com) to fit this little sucker on.

One day I might actually get to use it to steer with!

Stay tuned over the course of the year, don’t expect anything post-haste but there will be progress, I’ve plans for some essential purchasing next month and from there, who knows?! I really would like to have it ready before my birthday this year as a little present to myself but we’ll wait and see as I’ve just recently been informed of another S21…

There’s always something.

Farnsworth.

I’ve been doing little bits and pieces on the 110 again lately. I decided it would be easy to move it around if I hooked up everything to the L28 for it and put the transmission and the rest of the crap back in. It’s taking a little while, mostly because the weather is shit and working in a cold garage in shit weather, is not fun. I’ve got the flywheel and clutch all swapped over, the gearbox in, the slave cylinder all bled up and operating again. The good news is that when i was checking clearances again today, with the gearbox on and everything bolted close to final measurements, I’ve discovered that I need not make any allowances on the headers for the steering linkages. Yussss. I did also note however that I need new outer rod ends. Boo.

Still, here’s pictoral evidence of my pissing about…

L6 on Trips, can't wait.

Clearance? Miles of it!

It was interesting to see just how much higher the back of the motor sits when the gearbox is all bolted up, from going to just rubbing to maybe 20mm of clearance, I was quite content.

Starter Motor, check. Replacing coolant setup with L24 version, check.

I discovered also that I cannot use the high torque LD28 starter motor as it’s throw-out gear is a lot larger than the standard type. This is slightly disappointing but given I have at least 2 or 3 standard types kicking about, it’s not really a problem. I could probably see about getting the gear from a standard one pressed onto the end of the high torque one. Something to worry about when the engine is worked and stroked though.

Despite appearances, the intake and exhaust is only just sitting on there to check clearances, there’s no gasket and it’s not been fired up, turns out there’s a few more bits of crap that have to be sorted out in regards to differences between an L28 from an EFi Nissan Leopard and the L24 from a carb’d Nissan Skyline.

Still, it’s been good to work on the car again, have myself quite motivated, gutted the funds aren’t there to do more but something is better than nothing.

…and to close, here’s a view of how the cabin is likely to look;

Pitted cock.

I’ve not decided quite yet whether I’ll bother to put a centre console back in. I guess when the interior panelling returns, it’s likely to look silly without it. We’ll see. As you can imagine, I sat in the chair and made noises, while smashing through the gears. It’s the little things in life.

-Michael

Body Part Accumulation, 90% Complete

Just getting to this point would have been impossible without the help of a few people so now is as good of a time as any to just say a quick thanks to my friend Richard, for his help in retrieving the Longchamps after I bought them from the other end of New Zealand via trademe.co.nz as well as constant support in the matter, Ewan (www.hayatonka.com) who was instrumental in the purchase of most of the Japanese Market parts I have for my C110, everyone else who has offered support and assistance. I’ll try to not let you down with the end result when I can finally get around to it. Then I guess I’ll have to do the same with the S21!

Never-ending.

So, I finally got around to getting the replacement boot/ducktail spoiler for my C110 from Yahoo! Auctions Japan (cheers Ewan! (http://www.hayatonka.com/)), not long before finding out that I need to get a new job. Probably for the better in that who the hell knows when I would have been able to afford it if I didn’t dive right in when the Yen was at horrific 60 to a single NZD woes.

Here’s a quick preview of it on it’s own, taped in place for the time being.

Quack, Quack Quack.

The difference between the appropriate spoiler and the GMH Torana GTR-XU1 version that was on there, is IMMENSE. You’d not think it would be all that bad having a slightly different one on there but having now sat the proper one on, I can safely be disgusted by myself for keeping the other on there for so long.

More pictures in the coming days, including one or two of the rest of the FRP taped in place and the SSR Longchamp XR4′s on as well. It gives a decent glimpse of what will be the temporary “end” result (until the appropriate wheels are found and bought, not to mention the oodles of rust repair that still need done). Still, it’s nice to see things somewhat taking shape, provides good motivation to continue along the replica 110GT-R route.

Again, huge thanks goes out to Ewan @ Hayatonka for all his assistance in attaining these bits and bobs for me. Now, if I can get myself another job to be able to pay for the rust and engine work, I’ll finally be living with the copious amounts of awesome that a 110GT-R replica provides.
